who did you get that from? Did they give you any details when you bought it?

what's the size and weight please?

I personally think it's African instead of Roman. Having a flick through my guides atm.

It does look African, but could it not have been carved by a roman artisan?

Rome controlleda big chunk of africa, so it could be Romano-African.

I think it looks a bit later than that, I would pop that in at about the end of the Victorian period when you start to get the chocolate smooth finish and the terrible attention to detail. I don't collect heads by the way, just like a bit of tribal art lol.
It's really hard to tell exactly what it is without knowing the weight and size, a picture from the back and under the neck would be handy as well.

If you get any provenance on it, let us know. Until then, it "looks" African, though there are many Roman sculptures that depict Africans, but on its own with no provenance, looks more to be from West Africa.

Oh yeah, this is a Coin Forum, so you would be better trying on another Forum that deals in Antiquities.
