Hi everyone, I just picked this one up today, and it may be an anonymous follis. But I do not know the variety or the time period when it would have been minted. Any help would be appreciated! Also, I paid $30 for it. Do you think that I did alright?

Its nice, the standard type, no idea how they attribute. $30 would be abit more than id pay...AN has a nice olive green one, I hear, and he certainly will know more of them.

BenByfield- Thanks for the input! I am looking up my coin on wildwinds and elsewhere. And it seems that my coin is a Type A (but I'm not sure as to the variety), which means that it was probably minted 976-1028CE.
Is there any way to determine a mint of production of this type of coin?

This is a Class A2 Anonymous Folles attributed to the joint reign of Basil II and Constantine VIII, SB 1813.

And Ben is right, I do have a very nice one He gave me a good deal on this one. My coin is the same motif, but slightly older. While yours is a class A2 mine is an A1. Mine is struck on a much smaller clipped flan, and usually overstruck on another coin or by another coin. This coin seems to be original. When I saw original I mean not struck overstruck. The bust is Jesus, if you can find a Jesus with facial features its a good a thing. Prime examples of A1 and the more common A2 are expensive to say the least. Collectors favor the much larger A2 because in most cases the whole reverse legend is intact and every one like a 'hefty" coin. Bronze Anonymous Follis, Class A1, 24 mm x 21 mm x 7.36 grams John I Tzimisces Constantinople mint, 969 - 976 A.D. Obv. EMMANOVHL, facing head of Christ, two pellets in each cross limb, Pallium and colobium, holding ornamented Gospels with both hands, to left IC, to right XC; Rev. + IhSuS / XRISTuS / bASILEu / bASILE (Jesus Christ Kingof Kings) Ref: SBCV1793

echizento- Wow, thanks for the help! I really do appreciate it! However, Wikipedia says that Basil II reigned from 976-1025, and Constantine VIII reigned from 1025-1028. So did they in fact have a joint reign, or is it that my coin could be from 976-1028, effectively the span of both reigns?

So, out of curiosity, what kind of replacement value would you put on this coin?
