Ok, so I am going to be selling an 1893 S Morgan dollar PCGS Graded AU50 for a buddy of mine on ebay.... I am trying to figure out what the coin should go for so I can set a reserve.... The coin is graded and in the plastic case from PCGS No pics as of yet, still trying to figure out a price point Any ideas what I should set a reserve at?

Meaning no disrespect, I almost wonder if you're actually aware of what you have here? An 1893-S in PCGS AU50 is absolutely not an ebay coin. It's worth over $15,000 and needs to be consigned to a major auction house such as Heritage Auctions or Great Collections. ebay buyers aren't playing in that income class. You won't get your money unless you're very, very lucky.

I know what your saying, but the friend is an older gentleman and just wants the cash... Never sold anything through an auction house, how does that typically work as far as percentage etc....
PS.. no disrespect taken...
That's the reason I asked, to get everyones opinion

Are you sure it's real? Lots of fake AU50 '93-S's out there in PCGS slabs these days.

Just registered with Great collections, very fair pricing, and nice ebay style format.... I will post pics when I actually get the coin, as long as he decides 100% he is going to sell Thanks for the help, and will post asap

supgog, you can see a bunch of fakes here; http://www.flickr.com/photos/coinfo...9692/detail/And a couple threads on the PCGS forums pertaining specifically to '93-S's in AU50; &threadid=901151 &threadid=899039 EDIT: Apparently, CC has some beef or something and won't let me post links to the PCGS forums. Anyway, I'm sure you can find the forum itself, the end part has the thread number, so click any thread there, and replace the last part with what is above and you should be able to find the threads. Fake slabs are all over the place these days.

That's why I don't buy old slabs. The light blue label is easy give away.

Interesting post ... Always good to learn more
I think I would send it into PCGS to get it checked out. And get a new holder.

Great Collections is Good. So is Teletrade. Personally I dont like (Heritage) but it's up to you. Get the coin and slab authenticated by PCGS (Get high resolution pictures and email them). Wish you the best of luck (P.S. If you're really keen on ebay try a "buy it now" format and see how it goes)

Bought many coins from Great Collections, great site, great business. More than able to handle high end coins. If it is an elderly friend and it is part of an older collection, I wouldn't be too worried. While counterfeit coins have been around forever, counterfeit slabs are a relatively recent thing.

One thing I thought of - don't be afraid to play the "I don't know anything about coins" card (even if it isn't true) and ask them to ensure it's a righteous slab/coin, given the talk (based on reality) of counterfeit slabs. You're aware of PCGS' slab serial number lookup, right? If not: http://www.pcgs.com/cert/That will affirm that the serial number assigned the slab is, in fact, assigned to a coin of the right denomination and grade. It's not an ironclad guarantee but it will eliminate the obvious fakes.

Almost all modern fakes use real serials now.
