I like to buy coins to search through. What bank would allow me to receive the most amount of coins. I am mainly into pennies. I might be getting into nickels to. How do I go about buying say $500 face in pennies?

Just ask. Most branches are cool with ordering coins as long as you don't return them to that same branch (or at least that's what I've experienced). But let me warn you, 500 in pennies is A LOT!! Like A LOT, A LOT! That's 20 boxes per haul, which would rival any experiences roll hunter. I'd say start with maybe 50 dollars worth to see what it's like. I did pennies for awhile and it was hard work, but good luck to you!

Im saying buy it for something to do since they arent always redily available. Do I just ask a teller if they can oreder me pennies? and I have a copper penny sorter that also sorts out wheats. It takes 20-30 minutes max per box. Usually 15-20 min.

The worse they can say is no. Every bank is different, you must do your own footwork to find out.

Worth repeating.

Banks seem to vary more between branches than brands.

I do pennies with Bank of America and I don't even have an account with them. They all know me and are already pulling out another box as soon as they see me coming in the door. Like mentioned above, it varies from bank to bank though.

Should I search only pennies or should I get nickels also?

Browse through several pages of each denomination thread here in the CRH section. It should give you somewhat of an idea what you'll find. It's really hit and miss with CRH. You could have a monster find with tons of good stuff and other times you may find little to none. The only real way to find out is to get your fingers dirty searching rolls.

Not sure if its a good idea to buy $500 from a bank for two reasons:

1. It takes me an hour to search a $25 box of pennies, and I'm just quickly flipping them over to look for wheats and Indian Heads. Mathematically, $500 would take me almost one day and one night of searching.

2. The tellers at my bank are very nice, but I doubt they would order $500 in pennies for me. I rarely even ask for $50 on special occasions.

I have a copper penny miner. Searches $25 in 10 minutes or so.
