That's the question, I'm looking at 1 ounce silver bars and I'm not sure if they are one ounce or 1 troy ounce

All precious metals SHOULD be measured in troy ounces. Bars should be marked "troy ounce".

OK, thanks, the one I'm looking at says 1 Troy in the description but the bar itself doesn't say it...I guess I should stay away from it.

Bars yes. Silver eagles ar usually 31.5 grams or so, a Troy ounce is 31.1. They are .993 pure silver, but yes they are a full Troy ounce of silver. The math says they should be slightly over. The .007 is copper. Rounds and bars are usually exactly in multiples or fractions of 31.1.

Only copper is not sold by Troy ounce, but the regular ounces used in the us.

Superhal---The US Mint website says both proof and uncirculated ASEs are 99.9% silver.
See -- http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...tegory=10191 -- and http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...tegory=10191

Where did you find information that ASEs are 99.3% silver?

denco7: Not sure where your information came from but it's incorrect. All ASEs have the same fineness and weight per nominal specifications provided to planchant supplier. Slight tolerances are built into all specifications.

Remember reading somewhere that the bullion contained copper and the polished and burnished planchets did not. If I can find a source , I will repost. Probably wrong.[;0]

@Fat Freddy: At a website's melt values that I can't post here. Google "Usa Coin Book."

Sorry, it says .9993.
