Has anyone done business with Gov Mint or Franklin Mint? Do they offer quality products? I read several BBB complaints against one of these companies and I was just wondering if they paint an accurate picture?

I look forward to reading your comments.

Thanks,
Clinton

As long as you understand you're not buying a "coin," or anything with any real collectibility....

In other words, don't waste your money.

I have done a lot with GovMint, not much anymore. The products and customer service have always been top notch and wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again.
My only beef ( and it is not really a beef, business is business ) is that over the last year, they seemed to have transformed from Provident Metals ... et al to The Coin Vault. I used to get some of my yearly updates and some specialty coins from them. The last coin I got was the first in the Canadian GITD Dino series for $39.95 when ebay and everyone else was getting $80 to $100. A good place with reasonable prices. The all of a sudden my email alerts sounded like the Home Shopping Network, " get it now, before it is too late " " these are all sold out at the mint " " you may never see these coins again " Semi common date morgans for $129.00, MS70 eagles for $139.00 They went from a reasonable place to get coins that you missed from the mint to hypesters of over priced coins.

But if you find something you wanted at a price you can live with, I have never had a bad transaction with them.

Franklin mint stuff is low quality and overpriced. I think most of the stuff that is ".999 5 mill" is made by them. Their packaging material is worth more than the stuff in them I think.

Private mints are altogether bad news.

Most of their "coins" are junk. They're just steel discs plated in a few microns of gold and then sold at the "bargain" price of £4.99. Any genuine products they sell will often be at vastly inflated prices.

Avoid.

"Govmint.com" is not a mint; it's a direct-marketing coin seller. Calling them a "coin dealer" would be to slander genuine coin dealers.

Franklin Mint no longer makes coins. If you go to the Franklin Mint website, you will find some coins, but they are made by other mints, such as the Polish Mint.

There are some private mints still in America, and some of them do make "legal tender coins" for some countries. But it can be difficult to tell the difference between these companies and the mass-marketeers. Not everything claiming to be a "legal tender coin" actually is.

The name Govmint was a little too misleading and made me skeptical. That is why I checked their BBB records.
