Finally I can post! This was a melt-value find.  Great Britain, 1 shilling, 1745 LIMA Made from silver stolen from the Spanish near Lima, Peru, so the "LIMA" was added for bragging rights. I bet other people will have better LIMA coins today (someone's tried to assay mine), but here's mine. |

Austrian Netherlands 1745, Maria Theresia, Liard Quite common worn to VG, fairly hard to get in a decent grade. Unlike the pre-decimal silver coins from the Austrian Netherlands, the copper liard was not withdrawn from circulation until the 1850's. It survived the french occupation under Napoleon (where it was used as a 2 Centimes coin), the Dutch government (used as 1 cent) and the first decades of Belgian independence (again used as 2 centimes).  |

pity about all that verdigris, although this one still isn't too bad. one of my few 15 kreuzer pieces... 15 krajczar 1745, of Hungary, over which Maria Theresia ruled at the time   |

Principate Liège, 1744 Jean Théodore de Bavière as Prince-Bishop. Liard. The coin obviously was not minted in pure copper as it should have been. Worth barely more than a farthing, it is unlikely to be a contemporaneous counterfeit. Instead Jean Théodore de Bavière ordered scrap metal to be alloyed with the copper in minting the liard. In the 1860's, minting rights were withdrawn from the Liège principate after more severe abuses were revealed.  I'm now taking a sabatical leave, since my next coin is mid 17th century. |

This is my only 'Pillar Dollar', a coin of *questionable authenticity*. Am posting it for information value, and for direct comparison to the extraordinary example shown above. Feel free to point out any obvious evidence of fakery.   |

mysilveryears, your 1744 has many accurate details, though with some oddly weak areas that are not consistent with the overall wear pattern. I'm not an expert on authenticating these so I've had mine certified by TPGs. Have you posted it in the world coin forum?

1743 rouble from the early years of the reign of Elizabeth, second-oldest surviving daughter of Peter the Great. Minted in Moscow, 25.85 grams and 80% silver. Ex Antonin Prokop collection.   |
