There is an interesting variety this year. Whilst halfcrowns had the same basic reverse from 1911 to 1927, there was a minor change to the design in 1922. On coins issued before 1922 the crown touches the shield; on coins from 1923-1927 there is a gap between the crown and the shield. Both types exist for 1922.

There is some debate among British collectors about whether the garter legend around the shield (HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE) should be treated as part of the design or part of the legend: can a coin still be considered 'Fine' if the 'I' of 'HONI' or the 'P' of 'PENSE' have worn off?

That was close: another half crown posted during the very minutes I was editing the pictures.

Is this one of those years where everyone has the same coin. I guess there would be a good chance if a collector
has a silver dollar .. that it might be a 1921 Morgan or
a 1922 Peace dollar. I think I will stay away from my 21 Morgan's tomorrow.

If there is something different about your "common" coin, like a story behind it or a variety, by all means "show and tell".

Another "variety" for 1922--an Australia threepence with a long, deep die blunder on the reverse.

A lot of very nice looking coins got posted again. Almost any collector and his neighbour have a 1922 Peace dollar. So I don't feel any need of posting mine. From tomorrow onwards, we'll be flooded with Morgan dollars (and for weeks to come).

I like the 1922 Lira. It looks nicer than mine. These italian nickel coins were the only ones actually larger than the silver coins they replaced after WW-I.
