I inherited a collection from my father including a few florins one of which is the following from 1849. Just wondering about the grade and whether it's worth sending it in to be graded. The coin is shot through a plastic sleeve. Thanks!

Very nice - I would say VF (just a personal opinion).

Wow, VF is very harsh, I think even CGS would go better than that?
I forgot to say, that'll be around 45 on your Sheldon from me!
Incidentally, how do I quote a post?

I'd have said NEF - don't often see as nice a Godless florin as this one!

Thanks. So is it worth having it sent in to be graded?

To me (hence personal opinion) this is EF http://www.ebay.com/itm/1849-Queen-...047675.l2557Quote: Incidentally, how do I quote a post? I would give it GVF. There is wear beyond EF and a fair share of dings. I still like it but why on earth slab it? Book value about £70 ish worth to dealer £25 ish (slabbing £20?) Thanks Rooney for the grading compliment. There is plenty of over grading about.

Thanks for all your input. No slab it is. So if I were to put it on ebay I should expect around $50?

I would expect more like double that, i.e. $100 USD ... I agree with GVF, if not GVF + :) ... Not really worth slabbing a $50 coin is it? (to sell ...) But might well recoup the outlay on this one IMHO.

In all honesty I probably did overcook it a little bit, I think Paulus' GVF 'and better' is a place I'm happy at!

Welcome Jim to the club It is very well selling to other collectors on ebay with dubious grades going back and forth. However auctions & dealers will cut us poor collectors to shreds come selling day. That £400 EF becomes a £100 VF
