So now I know who I was bidding against, not that it really matters.

I dropped out after bidding $650, which was almost double prior comparable sales. He won it for $675 + buyer's fee. Goldberg's pre Long Beach auction. I'm assuming the eBayer is the other bidder but it is possible that he bought it from the Goldberg winner.

Sigh.

I really wanted this for a certain themed collection. Not for that price though.

Current asking price: $1620 (good luck with that...)

Aes Grave are expensive, I've always wanted one but they are well out of my price range. This is an interesting piece.

Yikes I am right around $300 for it. Guess I'm out. Maybe since you know what the seller wanted paid for it you might be able to get a substantial discount if you were still interested. I am not one for a cast lump of metal at that price. (There are exceptions) For that kind of money you could do some serious damage in the realm of Greek Silver. I know this coin might be something you NEED for your boar/pig collection but I would pass. I honestly don't think that coin (for the price) would bring the satisfaction you desire, (Based solely on the type and caliber of your other coins). I would think real hard about buying that one.

You're right, t's probably for the best that I didn't get it. I would like to have an aes grave at some point and since I have a pig thing going, this type would fit the bill. Some other time though, hopefully for less money or for a better specimen.

I do not plan on making an offer to the current owner since it would have to be far higher than I'm willing to pay to cover the Goldberg price, buyer's fee, shipping, and to allow him even a modest profit. I had hoped to pick it up under the estimate-- there were no bids before the live auction. The opening bid was from the floor, then another bidder, and then the winner and me duking it out with seven more bids each before I came to my senses.

There is another one coming up for auction soon but it is in worse condition. I do not plan on bidding. Probably

After this coin (far) exceeded my planned max, I bid on that mixed lot and it sold for less than the pork. Definitely more fun and value in that mixed lot.
