Picked this up for +$2.50/oz over spot. I can't find anything about this organization. Does anyone know the story of these rounds?

Maybe it's just an organization for Swiss people living in the United States?

I've spent a fair amount of time rummaging around in secondary generic silver boxes and tubs, but I haven't seen that one before.

Well, when I googled swiss of america, I found several ebay listings of "buy it now", which tells me nothing but what someone's expectations might be.

I got multiple hits for "swiss america", without any basis for belief that they are the same company (however, my latest search indicates that they are the successor company). Also, Swiss of America rounds are not listed on the Swiss America coin catalog (at least as far as I could find).

As for remainder of the 7 million hits, for the first several dozen I checked, there was no apparent relation to my inquiry.

I found a 1 ounce version on Ampex.

They say - Made by the Draper Mint, which is no longer in business. Based on dates of the 1970s for other "Swiss of America" rounds and bars.
(23.5 mm)" diameter x 1/4" thick!

Ken

P.S. Try doing a google search with swiss of america draper mint

I have the 1 oz. version but can't really offer anything, informatively speaking. I'm pretty found of the round due to its rather uncommon smooth edges and Piedfort-like dimensions. I never could find a case for it but I have seen them offered with the round on occasion. Mine also has the design featuring the chalet in the Alps.

Definitely made by the Draper mint in the 1970s. The mint has since been closed for a long time. They made many different sizes and variants including 1oz, 2oz, 2.5oz, 5oz, and several bars around 3-5 ounces. There are a few types of this round that have 1973 or 1974 stamped on them. Some of these Swiss of America rounds and bars can go for a good deal on ebay.

The company was based in Draper, Utah. It was owned by Loyd Hewitt who passsed away a couple of years ago.
