Wow, it just doesn't get better than that. What would be your method of getting some of that dirt off the coins?

Yes, awesome nearly describes the feeling of utter elation when you turn over the soil with a spade and the coins just spill out!! If there could ever be a 'bad' thing about finding the hoard it is that I found it after only weeks of detecting, which means I hit my peak rather early I fear....but who knows, maybe a silver hoard or a gold one next? It will be hard to beat.

Wow! wish there was something like that here in the US. I would be out detecting every day. How much of that are you able to keep, or does the Government take it all? And after their done going through it return it to you.

The method which I have refined over the past two years cost me 300 coins initially and then hours of trial and error!! That is what the guy wanted to be paid to give me the 'secret' method, and sadly I also promised not to tell another soul.....sorry.

should add.....they were treasure under UK law and the BM partially cleaned them for ID. I then did the rest, but TBH they didnt clean much off the coins anyway.

Must be pretty valuable secret for 300 hoard coins! Anything different or particularly interesting in there?

echizento, I got to keep the lot, minus 4 coins with new mint marks. Which the BM paid me for. So I have about 1600 coins which I clean up and sell a few on ebay. Once you have one type with the mintmark may as well sell the other 40 or 50 of the same type...

Ben, the results are so good that the money was well spent....I can now purchase disclaimed coins and clean them up to near mint state.

You are supposed to have 250 posts first.

It's good that they allow you to keep most of the coins. When you have 250 posts there is a separate forum where you can sell your coins. When you get to that number I would also be interested to see what you have.
