While I've amassed a fairly substantial collection of U.S. coinage, I wanted to "dabble" in the World Coin venue. Recently I purchased (at a fairly substantial cost) the following coin and need help on assessing its value. It is a 1977 Togo General Gnassingbe Eyadema 5000 franc silver proof coin in double thickness (piedfort). The 2014 Standard Catalog of World Coins indicates a total mintage of 10 coins. I found on Heritage where one sold(raw)in 2010 for just shy of $1,000. I plan on sending it for grading and also would like opinions on the better TPG for it. Here's the coin:

Is ICCS respected for all world coins, or just Canadian?

I've been seeing more world coins in ICCS flips, but I don't think they have much of a reputation yet. I like what I've seen so far, but for resale, NGS and PCGS is likely the best option. Of course, they're likely the priciest too.

Would a standard slab be able to handle the extra thickness of this coin?

On its way back from NGC with a PF-67 Ultra Cameo pedigree. I'm thinking April of next year on Heritage. They are doing some research on it as to expected worth. Will hear back from them next week. Everyone have a great Thanksgiving! PG

Sorry for the delay in the Heritage response. They estimate $1000 - $1500 for it. I now have copper test strikes (prueba) for seven more similar issues and have sent them to NGC for grading. One is from Sudan (1400 anniversary of Islam) and the rest are from Equatorial Guinea (various strikes commemorating the visit of the King and Queen of Spain). What is interesting is that only one of them is listed in the World Coin Guide. Any thoughts on why the others are not included? PG
