Buy Royal Canadian Mint product at your own risk. A manufacturer in China asked me today if I would like the new xmas coins or superman medals as they call it. They provided mint images. All the stuff made on the same size planchet with the same obv. are being targeted. Since my last article in the RCNA Journal was edited and all commentary about the RCM and the RCMP not even returning calls or emails removed along with any comment not blowing smoke up the %^& of the mint I will post this here and on other chat boards. I am sure glad I do not collect grannybait. The secondary market is in for an awful hit.

Keep up the good work Mike. Please don't let the CNA keep you from submitting your column. It keeps us informed and is always a good read.

Its truly amazing that the members with reps or any RCM customers, contact the RCM and get them get off their rear end on this issue, only the threat of no sales will the RCM act. All the tireless work done by Nicklesguy will go to waste if the RCM will not even listen, they own the copyrights, only the RCM can ask the government agencies to act.

Maybe RCM doesn't care if the secondary market is flooded with counterfeits because then the only way buyers can be sure of getting a real, genuine RCM product is by purchasing direct from the mint itself?

Or, would the buyers be aware that they're not getting the real thing if they unwittingly bought fakes after-market? Is it possible that the RCM sales would suffer if cheaper copies (out of China or wherever) started being being bought up unknowingly but in greater numbers than the real thing? It just might take a swift kick in the pocketbook to make the mint wake up.

In the NCLT forum we've discused about that a lot.
I agree but only to a certain point.
I could say also buy Nike products at your own risk, buy Samsung products at your own risk, etc. It's the buyer responsibility to see where he buys. If I buy from an official dealer or from a known and trusted collector it's ok. If you buy from someone you don't know it's different.
But I don't understand people that buy directly from China, Bulgaria, Thailand, etc. Commemoratives coins and usually at 10% of issue price, what do they expect to receive? You don't have to be a genius or a collector to guess.

Simply put if we keep buying, status qua, the RCM will do nothing as they have done for the last 10 to 15 years, look at the insane number of November issues and the gaga over the great lakes coin. Why do people buy these counterfeits in bulk if not to resale and their not produced for the Chinese market. When the flea markets are full of these fakes, your NCLT will become bullion value. The reason every popular product manufacturers protect their patents and copyrights proactively is if you don't the market will be overrun with fakes and destroying your name and market.

NickelsGuy, Thank you for all your efforts trying to keep this hobby safe. Although counterfeits will always exist, I believe the situation can be controlled.

You know, it just hit me, what if someone in the RCM is feeding an illegal source the CAD files in order to make perfect duplicate dies. It occurs to me that it's easier to fake something new than to fake something old. How else are they making such amazing replicas? If one knows the intimate details of the coining process, then one can make perfect copies.

Coming soon!! With the new 3D scanners/printers. Any coin will be able to be copied with extreme accuracy. The coin can be scanned 3D and digitally saved and then the info used to create dies. Today's fakes are nothing compared to what is to come with upcoming technology. This is just my prediction.

the process of making coins and dies are well known and the coins are just copied from the original coin , it is the copyrights that needs to be protected and only by the RCM, but for some reason they don't seem to care.

Copyright protection is a good idea, but that is just like locking the door.....it will only keep the honest out.
