Cleaned up.

Looked everywhere I can think. Are those letters under the horses feet or is it jumping over a fence?

Who is it?

Cleaned up nicely. Those are letters, probably a magistrates name. Good luck with it, I'm not familiar with greek stuff.

That's a very interesting coin and impressive clean-up.

Looks Macedonian. The reverse legend (upper) looks like BASILOU or something similar. Not sure about under the horse's legs, probably letters rather than fence, my guess is that it spells the ruler's name. Try looking through each Macedonian king on wildwinds.

The obverse is puzzling though. Almost looks like Roma from a Republican coin.

Interesting looking coin. The helmet looks like it has wings on it. Could it be Mercury?

Echizento-- It is because of you and your Guess the Emperor thread. I cannot tell you how many hours I spent digging for those coins when I knew absolutely nothing about ancients. It was a great way to jumpstart my learning, so thanks.

And now I spend at least an hour or two per day browsing upcoming auctions, vcoins, CNG archives, etc.

I think I've come a long way in the last what, six months?

[Edit: I lied. I spend 4-8 hours a day looking at coins. Might need a 12 step program soon]

Oh, this was part of that lot of semi-cleaned Macedonians you just bought, right?

I am SO lusting after that shield. If you decide to sell it...

Oh to have that much time to browse coin sites......I wish I did..I have about 8000 coins to clean and sell and I need to live to be 800 until I can get shot of most of them, still at least if I do, the loose change in my pocket now will be ancient so I wont have to go out metal detecting so that'll save me time!!
