Went to a coin show with a friend and she loved this one. I am on the side where the black strip on the make is unattractive, but she liked the mystery behind it, so I got it for her. Also, it has a neat die crack from the tip of the wing through ribus which is cool and not discovered till take pictures. Sorry shot through 2x2 as I am out of quarter ones right now, so I did not want to open it. What is your thoughts and best guess at grade given the pics? Also, what would you value it at?

Some sort of env. damage, maybe was in in a fire or something.
Looks ok otherwise hard to tell grade through the toning, any luster left? AU maybe?

Mysterious yes. Not my cup of tea though..

If she's happy that's all that matters!

There is plenty of luster, but it is hard to capture.

its very mottled. this is a coin that has simply "toned" over the years. if it has lots of luster peeking through under that mottled spotting of the obverse than you quite possibly have an MS coin that is worth more than spot melt silver.

Tape or glue once covered most of the reverse, preventing it from fully toning. You can still see some of the remaining residue on the reverse.

I'm thinking at least MS-60, but it's hard to tell with the toning...

Acetone should remove the tape/glue, but IMHO when you are done you'll still have a pretty ugly 54 year old George. Still, he's in better shape than *I* am @ 54, so...
