ebay gets so much bad press, and there is so much said about bad sellers I thought I'd put up an experience I had yesterday/today.
I really do tend to collect by quantity, over quality. Recently I've tried to reverse this trend by purchasing smaller amounts of higher graded coins, but I can't help myself when I see a large lot for a reasonable price.
I found a lot of 175+ on sale for less than thirty dollars yesterday. The coins were already in 2x2s, and in a binder with pages. The auction was for the whole lot. After looking at the pictures, I decided I could spend $30 just to find out what was really in there. (Curiousity killed the ElleKitty.) I bid on the item.
Shortly afterward, a notice came up on the bottom of the auction. A bidder had asked a question, and the seller realised (to her horror) that there weren't 175 coins in the collection. They counted 106 in the book.
Well, the auction ended with myself as the highest bidder. I admit I was a bit disappointed at the reduction in the number of shinies I would get to go through, but decided I did bid, I would pay as promised. So, I shot my payment off through PayPal immediately. (I do this with almost every auction I bid on, since I tend to snipe them. >.> )
This poor woman has been frantically trying to get ahold of me since yesterday. She's emailed through both
ebay and Paypal, she even tried to call me. Because of my job, which is overnight this fortnight, she didn't get any answers.
I woke up this afternoon to find my mailbox full. ^^; I called her myself, and reassured her that I was fine with the auction. She was prepared to refund my payment immediately, and I think she was surprised to hear that I wanted to go ahead with the sale.
In the end, she added some coins to the package to make it 133 total, including an example of the Queen's visit to New Zealand in 1970.
I truly wish every
ebay seller was as concerned with representing accurately to their bidders! I highly recommend
http://myworld.ebay.com/jpkantqs/ as an
ebay seller!

The only problem is, she doesn't specialise in coins.
