Short story. I listed a Nintendo Wii for auction. I checked the auction with 4 hours remaining, no problems. I left for the night and checked my ebay the next day. Here was the message: "Dear paratrooper_sean, The results of the following listing(s) have been cancelled due to bidding activity that took place without the account owner's authorization:..." etc.

A couple days later I receive an email NOT an ebay message, very elaborate with the ebay logo (below). It seems apparent someone was trying to get me to ship the product without payment.

The whole Email:

Dear ebay User,

Here's a little known tip, you can stop reading at Dear ebay User,. My Mailwasher Pro rules automatically bounce, then delete any email that comes to me with that phrase in it.. I never even see it.

ebay won't address you that way.

The PayPal fishing is what gets more people. I had one that looked so legit that I actually logged in to check on why a $165 payment was denied. Good thing I noticed and I changed my password ASAP and no harm was done.

My uncle bid on a rare 18th century book for $1200, and was aniped at the last second. Next day, he receives an elaborate second chance offer hoax from some man in England saying "I've already sent you the item as the high bidder didn't want it, Please pay now" He was ready to pay for it (it was his first ebay purchase), but at the last second forwarded the message to me, and I could see immediately it was a scam. I like how here they used the email
"e.bay-market@consultant.com" spelt "e.bay", so at first you don't notice!

The first part of the email doesn't matter, they didn't even have to split it, that's how stupid they are.

They could have just used "ebay@consultant.com" with no problem.
