Need Help Identifying A Coin Or Medal...

Hillarylmt, This looks like a religious medal. Reading about the history led me to that conclusion. Hopefully some others can identify it. Above all else, it is a family treasure.
Any identification on the reverse?

Welcome Hillary! Unless it has a denomination on the reverse, it's almost certainly a medal. I'm not a medal expert but, to my eyes, the image looks like one person who has been injured, supported from behind by one person, attended from in front by another person leaning over, with two other people, one on each side. Given the context of the war, I'd guess that it was medal honoring a military rescue team of some sort.

Thank you all so much for the information. I should not have used the word coin. My husband got that in my head. I think it is clear it is a medal or medallion. The back is completely smooth, any writing that may have been on it was worn off by years and years of being carried in his pocket. It is about the size of a half dollar. I have tried to google some of the terms you have supplied me with, but wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction of good websites with pictures I can compare to? Thanks again so much!
