Hi everyone. I recently dug this old coin up. I'm thinking it could be gold as besides the 1223 date there are numerals of 7810 which I wonder if they stand for .7810 purity. Anyhow, I've been fooled before so not getting my hopes up but I'd really like to find out if anyone can help!

Weight is approx. 0.5g, diameter around 16.7mm and it's paper thin.

Thanks,
Rob

Definitely gold I believe the denomination is Kurush based on past experience and it's from Iran...? Not sure. I'll leave it to the experts. Very nice find btw

It says 1223, year 78. No such year, and this is not a gold coin, sorry. What you have is a novelty replica, often used as ornamentation.

Lol maybe I should have broken out my glasses, it looked like 7810 but under this magnification I see it's a 78 with a little curve and a dot after it!!

AN honest mistake. These are stylized to look like a Turkish 1/2 cedid coin.

Yep, it's a jewellery replica. Do a Forum search for "Year 78" and you will find several similar replicas with a similarly fictitious date. And no, it's not actually made of gold.
