I know there's an ultra rare narrow date 1877 one penny.... But for a half penny? I can't find anything that says there's even a narrow date variety of this one.. Let alone rare. Could you provide a link? *edit* We're all the 1877 half pennies narrow date? Because I can't find anything about a "narrow date" variety.. It looks like every one I just looked at for comparison? Including mine..? And on all lists of rare half pennies there's no mention of this one? Even the semi rare lists dont include any mention of 1877. Unless I'm completely looking in the wrong place... But in this grade there selling from $1-$3.... Again I could be wrong but it looks like a well worn common half penny to me...

The narrow date is more common than the wide date, but neither are rare.

^^^ that's what I thought... I couldn't find anything that said any 1877 half penny was remotely rare/valuable. Most I've seen are narrow date then, including mine, not sure if I've ever seen a wide.

absolutely a nice piece for your collection! I'm working (very slowly as US coins are my main priority) on a pre 1900 UK penny & half penny set.. Pretty cool, I've got them in display boxes on my wall in the man cave (coin/hunting room). Ya, I've seen BU GEM examples for a bit under $200 as well.. But well circuated examples are pretty affordable. Lol, You had me wondering if I had overlooked some crazy rarity... For a minute I had Hawaii on the brain.. . I was thinking ultra rare like the 1877 narrow date penny kind of $.

It is a standard 1877 1/2d with verdigris. I would keep it well away from any collectable copper coin. It would make a great pocket piece and maybe the dreaded green might fade. A fine condition coin books at £2 in Spink. Any value is in the copper.(a few pence)

Sweet, thanks for the link, that's the first wide one I've seen... But then again I haven't been looking as I thought they were all the same.. Lol. Maybe contact BadThad on here and get some verti-care... A solution he created, 100% safe for coins and removes vertigris wonderfully. He sells it on E-bay but I believe you can just contact him directly on here and get a discount for being a member (I think). Not really worth it for just one coin... But definitely good to have if you have a few with vertigris or even just to have on hand for when you do get another with it. Wonderful stuff!
