There was just an auction for 112 pounds of foreign coins. With 1 minute left, the bid was $519. That's around $5.00 a pound which is a little low for the going rate, so I figured I'd jump in and be real generous in my offer -- $650. Nope. Outbid. So I kept going higher and higher and then was finally outbid. The winning bid? $1,125. Holy cow! That's $10 a pound for very average bulk foreign coins. It must have been won by someone looking to a resell. That's who collectors are up against on ebay alot of times. Still, I think this winning bidder is gonna have trouble making a profit on reselling these coins at that price.

LOL, there would be a few doubles in that lot.

Wow, wouldn't it be fun to look through that many coins? The trouble for me is that I wouldn't want to get rid of any and I'd have to find a home for all of them. 112 pounds, wow!
Rest in Peace

Wow!!!I must say that is one heck of a lot of coins! It would be a blast to go trough all of them. I have a dealer friend that used to sell foreign coins by the pound. I do not remember what he charged, but it was not very much. I will be seeing him next week and will ask if he still does it. If so I will post his info and what he wants per pound if anyone is interested. Mike

I would really be interested in hearing what your dealer friend thinks is a reasonable price for bulk world coins, Mike. Like all areas of coin collecting, this formerly neglected area is getting pricier. On that auction I didn't just get outbid, I totally misjudged the market. No way I thought someone would shell out thatg much money for very average bronze, aluminuim, copper-nickel coins.
Rest in Peace

Hi chasinva69! My curiosity is definitely peaked right now as well. I bought a few pounds from him for my daughter 4 or 5 years ago and we got some very neat coins. At the time he culled out any silver coins , but we got a few anyway. I will post the current cost and method if he still does it. He is a well established dealer and has been in same location for 30 plus years. I am anxious to see what he has. I hope he has a lot of stuff laying around! He is very kind to YN's and used to have a big bin that he would let kids grab a "handful" of foreign coins and common Wheaties and such for like 25 cents or something. Mike

Whoa! Imagine the postage costs to have 112 lbs of coins sent over here to Australia! Love the coins, hate the freight!
