Now they keep the user ID's private so people who know this is a scam can't contact the unknowing bidders :( and people who have been scammed by this seller can't warn them either...

ebay really can be a hard place to learn a lesson.

I'm sorry, but what's the scam that he's pulling?

Other than he's advertising a $13,500.00 on a $71 bidded item.

This coin is graded by a false grading company- they put MS-60 coins into MS-68 slabs and sell them to newbies for much more than they're worth. It ruins the hobby for many people and takes place ALL OVER eBay- just search GGC, SGS, NNC, or basically any 3 letter acronym you can think of. Almost anything except PCGS and NGC is most certainly an over-graded scam.

Hi Pattiewhack,
This coin does look like a very attractive, full-red uncirculated 1909 VDB. It's almost certainly overgraded as MS-68 but if it crossed over to PCGS at MS-65 Red (for example) the current bid would be pretty fair. This seller has an impressive 99.7% positive feedback rating for 1400+ transactions. If I were interested in this coin I'd first email him to confirm whether I could return it if I didn't like it.
I usually feel pretty safe bidding on ebay, if the following conditions apply:
1) The seller has lots of feedback with 99+% positive ratings.
2) The coin photos are clear and large enough to see detail.
3) The seller offers a reasonable return privilege.
4) The seller accepts PayPal.

I've only been burned once when I sent $20 to a guy who failed criteria 1, 3, and 4 on my list. Sure the guy was a cheat but if I'd followed my own rules I'd still have my $20!

Just my opinion!

I agree completely and my criteria match yours, minus the Paypal part. I find Paypal good and easy to use, and I do use it a lot- but if they suspect you of swindling money (Never would I do this, but at one point in time Paypal suspected me of it), paypal bites you HARD. The coin certainly looks nice, but when a noob ends up paying $200.00 for it it will possibly riun the hobby. I expect his feedback is so good because buyers leave it, and then months or years later find they overpaid on theyr purchase, but by then it is far too late.

I think ICG & ANACS are both safe & reliable grading companies.

I've personally seen nicer examples & more conservative grading from ICG over NGC! I've seen Presidential dollar coins, for instance, that ICG graded MS-63, MS-64, MS-65 that were noticeably nicer & had less visible flaws than their NGC counterparts. Even though NGC has the reputation & sells for a higher comparative amount, I trust the grading of ICG more!

Agreed. I trust ANACS and ICG as well. I just said PCGS and NGC to keep it simple. There are good companies but the bogus ones far outnumber them.
