Morning all! I could really use a bit of help on some nickels that I'm attempting to identify.

I've read Charlton and various web resources about the differences between the "near" and "far" rims on 1922/26/29/32/34/36 nickels, but without having clear examples in hand next to each other, I'm still not quite seeing the differences. I have an old collection handed down by my grandfather some years ago that I'm now trying to organize and classify, and would like to prevail upon more experienced eyes to confirm or refute my attributions.

Mods, please move if this is in the wrong forum. :)

Firstly, I have what I'm certain are both varieties for 1934. When seen side by side, the difference is clear. The only thing that seems to be unclear is the difference in the flat and concave fields. In this example, they look the same, although this could just be due to wear (I realize these examples aren't of the highest quality).

Near Rim:
Canadian-Nickels-
Far Rim:
Canadian-Nickels-

With these in mind, here's the rest for your perusal:

1922 (Near Rim, concave field.)
Canadian-Nickels-

1929 (Near Rim, however field looks flat)
Canadian-Nickels-

1932 (Far Rim, however field looks concave)
Canadian-Nickels-

1936 (Near Rim, concave field)
Canadian-Nickels-

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Try page 1 of this link. It will show how people have been able to indenitfy the 1932 near/far variety, not sure about the other dates but I assume it would be a similar process.

Thanks for the links! Had a look through, but I still feel like I'm guessing at the differences. I suppose I'll need to actually see the different varieties in hand to "get" it. :)

Yes, once you have both in hand looking through your loop you should have no problem telling them apart.
