I really like finding these things in other countries. They tend to be high grade quite frequently, and europeans are much tougher on grading than we tend to be. I too figured it to be at least a 55 ... and while the seller didn't place a grade on it, I've repeatedly bought AU coins that they describe as VF. I paid a whoppin' 42 dollars for this coin...and 9 dollars shipping. There may be coin shops in the US that would sell this coin for that money, but there are NO coin shops in my locale, and us sellers on ebay, because of the selling expenses, tend to overprice coins like this...common date and better grade.

I have one in my 7070 (an AU 1917-P) that has a wee bit of pvc damage that I'd been itchin' to replace when the opportunity arose. I'll be able to sell that one for more than enough to pay for it's replacement...without being greedy.

This coin is set to arrive during the coming week. I just now realized that what you are looking at is a digital scan, from a flatbed scanner and not a photographic representation of the coin. Almost all of the coins from this dealer are presented this way. It appears as though they've only recently switched to taking actual digital pics. 95% of their inventory is scanned.

It will be interesting to see what it "really" looks like. I'm betting it's even nicer than the image presented here would make you think ... and it looks pretty good in the scan.

FWIW ...this was offered as VF ..

I'll photograph it when it gets here.

I realized it was a scan off the bat. The line right down the obverse indicates a light touch of wear, hence my grade of 55.

It took me awhile to realize that they were using scans. I'm not saying that it would grade any higher than a 55 ... but it was sold as a VF-20.

Yeah, it's a long shot finer than a VF20. You'll do well on resale if that's what you do with it.

I bought this as a replacement for the 1917 in my 7070 ...which has a wee spot of pvc etching at about 12 o'clock. It's as nice as this one otherwise ... and I paid 22 dollars for it a year or 2 ago. I'll make a few dollars on that one ... and keep this one.

The coin arrived this morning, and I'm torn between keeping the other one...and keeping this one for the type set.

I'll look at the 2 together and decide I guess. My type set's in another building right now. so no decision yet.

Here's what it really looks like though ... more or less. I'm thinking about a new camera. I don't much care for this one.
