Just got back into to town and collected my couple of kilos of pennies from the post office...the obverse on this one looks a little different...I am curious as to what happened to this one, either in the mint, or I the 100 years since. Please.......

PMD most definitely looks like it's been melted a bit? Actually another possibility would be an electrolysis reaction? (from chemistry class) or prehaps being subjected to copious amounts of acid?

Could be. Maybe somebody hit it with an oxy, on that side only. I should have included a pic of the reverse, which just looks like an ordinary 1913 penny.

Never seen anything like it before. It's so dramatic it would be easy to assume it's PMD but I'm not so sure....

Yeah I mean how in the world could that happen at the mint and especially if no one has seen it before only really adds to the conclusion of PMD.

There are two things I'm curious about. The legend on the obverse appears closer to the crown than what I think it should be (I should probably take some measurements to confirm if this is the case, and not just an optical illusion).
The other is the extra metal. Unless, it just looks that way, and the planchet has bubbled or raised, to give that appearance.
