I found this penny today, and from what I have read on other sites, it looks to be doubling on the five. I tried looking it up on copper coins but couldn't find one to match. Would like to know your thoughts.

Looks like the 5 took a hit early on in it's life. Does not look doubled to me.

I agree just damaged. Not the overall size of the 5 device is the same width as the rest of the date. Just the area in question is different as it took a hit in that area. here is a BU coin. The devices on your coin have been circulated rolling the edges over a bit through the many years since it was struck.

There is no corresponding doubling on the bottom of the "5" to match the north/south separation at the top of the five.
[ia} the top part of the "5" took a hit a long time ago.
