Hmm... I can see faint remnants of the original 7-sided rim... and there is no picture of the edge. If the edge was milled, I would think it is more likely to be real... but we can't tell, so I'd say someone has been messing about with this one.

Now that you mention it , the remnants do seem a bit visible especially on the second picture.

10p planchets are smaller than that. I'm not seeing how this could possibly have happened -how would it center in the colar? Id expect it off center if it was an off planchet strike.

Can't see the photo of this anymore so couldn't say for sure but 9 times out of 10, you can determine whether it is genuine based on the person it has come from. The person who was selling this claimed it came straight out of a bag (assuming a mint bag?) and they appear to be a genuine seller on ebay (lots of feedback). Whilst the 2 do not confirm it to be a genuine error coin, it is a strong possibility. I know this post is really late, only just saw it, but have you since had confirmation one way or the other?
