Or it might be ..... that handsome young man of whom it was remarked looked so much like his grandfather.
Legend might be "Caius Caesar Germanicus" aka Caligula

Phrygia, Dionysopolis. Augustus or Tiberius(?). Idomeneus philopatris, magistrate. ΣΕ''ΣΤΟΣ, bare head of emperor right / "ΙΟΝΥΣΟΠΟΛΙΤΩΝ Ι"ΟΜΕΝΕΥΣ ΦΙΛΟΠ'ΤΡΙΣ, Dionysos standing left, holding grapes and thyrsos. Von Aulock, Phrygiens II, 92-6; RPC I 3122.
A very rare coin (VA and RPC record just five specimens each, and although I did not check, they are probably the same). The portrait of the ruler, identified simply as ΣΕ''ΣΤΟΣ, is uncertain. Von Aulock prefers Augustus and the authors of RPC tentatively suggest Tiberius, "since the portrait is like that of 'Laodicea' stylistic group which is found elsewhere with Livia as ΣΕ''ΣΤH." (RPC I p. 505)

Please replace the - ' in my post above with the Greek letter Beta, and - " with the Greek letter Delta.

John, I was so excited I submitted before I thanked you, so thank you so much.
Anyone know of any past sales (husband wants to know, so might have to hide it).

If it were mine, I'd probably offer it in my VCoins store at $110. That might be a little on the cheap side, but probably not terribly so.

Thanks John, so no second house in the country then :) Well I am relieved, I love the portrait and I am going to call him Tiberius (because I don't have one) but with a note possibly Augustus. I will also keep your information with the lable.

A 'most excellent' discovery ! Personally I would be thrilled and delighted. If it were mine to covet I would be looking to find someone who would be even more thrilled than myself at the prospect of acquiring a great rarity ...... then work a 'deal' to acquire a VF/XF portrait coin (As or Dup) of either Augustus or Tiberius ....... better yet both !
I only suggest this as such rarities are much more prized by the long time collectors who are inclined to be "ho hum" about more common things like the traditional Roman Imperial issues. While I have collected for almost 40 years ..... I never wearied of those Julio Claudian AE's with the beautiful portraits !

FR not sure what to do about this yet. I agree, some long term collector might want it, but $110 seems such a small amount for such a rare coin, it seems hardly worth while going to the effort of selling it.
