Nice looking coin, I checked Whirlwinds, could it be Temnos ?RPC 2446, BMC 27, SNG COP 277 AE18 Athena standing left holding a spear.

Echizento, it is the closes I have seen. I will put it down as "like" this coin. Maybe when I have had a bit of practice I will be able to make out more of the legend. Thank you.

(edited: I don't think this is it-- the legend in the left field of the reverse is not in the right place) You might be able to figure out more of the legends-- the pics are too small but there seem to be enough details to estimate some of them. I'm not sure it's Augustus-- probably, but could be Tiberius or someone else. In hand, see if you can make out the legends in this LYDIA, Sardes Augustus provincial. Looks close but hard to tell with your limited pictures. This may not be your coin but it's getting in the ballpark. http://www.coinproject.com/coin_det...?coin=295795 Quote: Date Struck : 27-14 BC-AD Diameter : 20 mm Weight : 5.13 g Die Axis : 12 h Obverse Legend : ΣΕbeta'ΣΤOY Obverse Description : Bare head right Reverse Legend : deltaΙΟdeltaΩΡΟΣ/ΕΡΜΟΦΙΛΟY - Σ'ΡdeltaΙ'ΝΩΝ Reverse Description : Zeus Lydios standing left holding eagle and staff and this LYDIA, Sardes example from wildwinds: http://wildwinds.com/coins/ric/augu...RPC_2986.txt

Check the legends against this one too. LYDIA, Hypaepa. Quote: Augustus, AE19.27 of Hypaepa, Lydia, 27 BC-14 AD. 6.26 gr.
SEBASTOS, Laureate head right. YPAIPHNWN XARIXENOS MENANDROY, Zeus standing left holding thunderbolt and sceptre.

TIF I think you're right, I went with the idea that it was Augustus, but it can very well be Tiberius as you say. Your examples look more like it.

Tiberius. A possibility. Haven't scrutinized the legends. There are other Tiberius possibilities on wildwinds. Easier with the coin in hand and a good magnifying glass or macro lens camera. PHRYGIA, Laodicea ad Lycum. http://wildwinds.com/coins/ric/tibe...C_2911.1.txt

Everything going wrong today :) Having to do this in bits Obverse Left side of portrait With some imagination it could be SAB? But it could be anything. This looks like STOT? or Z(Gamma)O(Gamma). Sorry my Greek is non-existent.

If it is, it is not on wildwinds for either Tiberius or Augustus.

If you have Word, try Insert Symbol, put it into a word document and then cut and paste it into the search. Well I have opened the wine in desperation. Doesn't get me results any quicker, but I feel more creative :)

I give up. I think I will put it in the "Unattributable lot" and maybe send it to the british museum. Work to do for the next couple of days so time is limited. Thanks for all the suggestios.
