I got charged 25% import duty from the US.First time it has happened.
It should be levied at coins under 300 years old (and 5% over 300 years)
I'm doing my bit to get our hammered silver back.(just after the Mayflower sailed)

You have 40 days to claim VAT errors back..be warned.

That happened to me once. I got a refund minus the handling fee. In my case, they read the US dollar customs value and postage as being in £'s rather than $.

"Duty and VAT are calculated as a percentage of the value of the imported goods, consisting of the product value and the freight & insurance costs."

This is why I sometimes ask the folks I buy stuff from to split the shipment into more than one packages. I pay a bit more in postage but that is offset by the fact that Royal Mail\Parcel Force will charge £8 handling fee.

That's kind of absurd; it's like taxing you on the tax. Had you gone to the country and hand-carried the item back, you'd pay no extra fee on the cost of your plane ticket, would you?

Don't give them ideas. I'm sure they would LOVE to add your airline flight ticket to the price of the coin for figuring VAT and Duties
