Hi!
I have about 3000 coins. It's my grandma's old collection. They've been stored very poorly in regular paper envelopes, clink-clanking against each other for the last 35 years. Obviously they're all circulated coins, but some of them are worth in the 5-10 dollar range. I want to know what storage method I should use.

Ziplock baggies? -> Best-Storage-Option...-For-A-Large,-Low-Value-Collection

Tubes? -> Best-Storage-Option...-For-A-Large,-Low-Value-Collection

2x2 pockets? -> Best-Storage-Option...-For-A-Large,-Low-Value-Collection

2x2 cardboard? -> Best-Storage-Option...-For-A-Large,-Low-Value-Collection

2x2 cardboard in 2x2 pockets?

I obviously don't want to spend more on storage options than the value of the collection...

What do you think?

Really you could use a combination of all of those methods. Perhaps some of your more valuable coins in the 2x2s and general coin storage in the coin tubes. Most of the storage methods you mentioned. Seem fine, it would really boil down to what you'd like.

Tubes and 2x2s will be best and least expensive - tubes for large quantities of unremarkable coins, 2x2s for better, more valuable, and world coins.

If there are any world coins (post pictures!), most stores should have a variety of 2x2 sizes... although my low-value ones go in snack bags, grouped by country/region. We can identify the more valuable ones.

I would try to avoid using any plastic bags.

Plastics can contain PVC, which can damage coins (and banknotes) over time.

Thanks, @Canadian-Banknotes. The 2x2 plastic cases are made for coin storage, they specifically state that they're PVC-free.
And thanks to everybody, I know a little more now than I did before.

Put the ones worth more than face/melt into 2x2s, and then look for Brumberger or other brand slide boxes. They hold 150 each and are fairly cheap.

To save money the cheapest is those plastic rolls. The only problem with them is unless they are full, they could allow coins to rattle into each other. However, for just storing, you wouldn't probably shake them anyway. 2x2's and other flips can get expensive since one is used for one coin. Since you don't think you have expesive coins, just put them in those tubes for now. You can always do something else in the future.

This.

By the way, you should never put a coin in a 2x2 pocket without putting it in a cardboard 2x2 first.

I believe I would go with 2x2 cardboard flips in album pages that way others could share in the memories of your grandmother.
Rest in Peace
