Don't you love it when you find a coin that shows just what you are telling collectors and they eventually get it? Here is a classic machine doubled proof 1962 Cent reverse. It show the devices reduced as I've always helped others to see:
Machine-Doubling-Reduces-Devices
Machine-Doubling-Reduces-Devices
Machine-Doubling-Reduces-Devices
Machine-Doubling-Reduces-Devices
Machine-Doubling-Reduces-Devices

On a doubled die the hubbing makes an enlarged device:

Good post. I think the error forum needs a few sticky posts like this at the top that people can see.

One for Machine Doubling.
One for Double Dies.
One for RPM's .
One for References that are tried and true. INCLUDING how to shoot good pictures of coins (flash use, macro setting etc)

This should assist others in educating themselves. I don't have a lot of time to help and after a while, I tend to get a bit point blank when time is short. So, if an area can have these for posts that are written by a select few and then locked - it will keep the questions within the proper area.

There will always be people who put down a coin and go...whats this? Some aren't coin collectors, and some are. The ones that want to learn will, the ones that don't may wander off to another hobby or be stuck in a holding pattern for some time. I personally like to help when I can, but again, its limited on time and what the person is willing to give you.

Remember its Garbage in is Garbage out.... They should provide as much detail as they can so the people who wish to offer an opinion can do so to the best of their ability.

I second that. As a newbie I would suggest several sticky topics. It will largely cut down on the repeated questions.

On a side note, this forum is awesome. I spend my entire lunch just about everyday reading and learning as much as I can. I am very grateful for you guys.

Also the most asked question:
1. Large or small date 1970-S.
Machine-Doubling-Reduces-Devices
2. Machine doubled?
3. Doubled die?
4. What error is this?
5. What is this worth?
6. Terminology.
Probably not in that exact order, but these are asked a lot.

1 1/2 years of study and still confused on DD's when looking at a coin. Also, I have learned to search the forum before posting a question.
This truly is my 2nd home. Lost without it.

coop...how do I send my address to you for the DVD. Very generous of you.
