So they re-slab it as large date. Do they pay for their mistake for the price difference? Sounds like the seller doesn't want to step up and solve this problem themselves. Send it back to them and let them deal with the loss. You paid for a small date! Not a slabbed large date.

Perhaps you should contact ebay directly and tell them what's happened. I'm not sure if they can do anything but you certainly shouldn't be the one left holding the bag.

Guess what the same seller has up for bid?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/39069950140....m1423.l2649

What's the deal here? Does this guy have the market for mislabeled 1970s small date slabs cornered?

I would go the ebay round and let them know he is doing it again. You shouldn't have to eat anything when the coin is not correct.

Hmm...the seller's pictures aren't that sharp. But comparing to a small date (top picture), both strike me more as large dates.

It ain't even close.

Once might have been an honest mistake but this seller has established a pattern.

And what are the odds of one seller having two coins misattributed by NGC? That's really hard to wrap my brain around.

You should have a good case at ebay.

Goes to show you that NGC, and probably the other TPGs, are greedy, money extracting entities. Of course they will be glad to reslab it. Who wouldn't want a slabbed LD? AS I've pointed out, IDing this variety is NOT THAT TOUGH. NGC is supposed to have professional graders and they can't get this one right? Says a lot, doesn't it.
