Thanks TIF, but he doesn't ship here and I went crosseyed trying to find my way through his catalogue of catalogues...
Interesting though, if you havent got any and want some really lush coin photos and top quality catalogues, the Gorny and Mosch ones are dirt cheap with him and they are superb!

A major reference for Gallo-Roman coins is
The Cunetio Treasure: Roman Coinage of the Third Century AD
by Edward Besley and Roger Bland,
but it is very hard to find.
The treasure consisted of 54,951 coins gathered and buried c. 260-275. The study took the occasion to arrange all issues of Gallienus and the Central Empire and, half the coins coming from the Gallic Empire, arranged them all into issues too. It has 40 page plates and a supplemental study of the "zoo" animal coins of Gallienus.
Unfortunately, you would probably have to wait for a major numismatic-literature auction to find a copy.

I just use my copy of RIC V, part II for Gallic Empire coinage.

I take it you are aware of this site?:
http://www.gallic-empire.com/index.html
The owner has also published reference works, but so far, in German alas.

Oh yes, the Cambridge University Press allows you to buy an electronic copy of "Edward Besly, Roger Bland: The Cunetio Treasure. Roman Coinage of the Third Century AD." for £20, just need to register first with them.

Here's the link:http://journals.cambridge.org/actio...&aid=4172540

Why buy from the U.S. literature published here in the U.K. unless you enjoy the V.A.T. bill sent by "Her Majesty's Customs and Excise" and "Handling Fees" charged by Parcel Force?

You'll be well aware of the "Time Team" episode on Cunetio.

For Gallic Empire, there are a couple, but the one you are probably looking for is Schulzki, Heinz-Joachim. Die antoninianprägung der gallischen Kaiser von Postumus bis Tetricus. Bonn, 1996. However, you need to use it with caution and also in conjunction with M. Weder's review in SNR vols. 76 and 77. Schulzki missed a lot of types, included false types, basically just messed up a lot of things... but despite that it's still the 'best' readily available reference work on GE coins.

Warren mentioned Cunetio in a post above, which I also highly recommend. It is hard to find, though, and expensive when it does come up for sale. Schulzki, on the other hand, is reasonably affordable for a coin book and is readily available (I think Jacquier on MA-shops stocks it). I think I paid $200-ish for Cunetio a dozen or so years ago, and about $75 for Schulzki.

As for RIC, it's really not much more than a type catalogue for GE.

Best,
John

I've used an American University site in the past for issues and emissions for Postumus but cant remember its name atm. It was pretty good, hopefully after my hangover subsides I should be able to remember where it is

The thunder in my head has finally quietened down enough for me to find my links.

I used a University of Virginia site a while ago but the link now seems to be dead

http://coins.lib.virginia.edu/essay...ber_postumus

The above essay had issue / emission info on Postumus that was very useful, maybe the info is still there somewhere but I can find it, here is the front door:

http://coins.lib.virginia.edu/

This site will probably cover everything you need, basic looking but has a lot of good info on it:
