....

I would start by following the sticky threads on the top of the list for your primary reference. If you post clear pictures of the front back and sometimes edge of the coin many will give it their best shot to ID your coin, and how it might fit into the puzzle of ancient history.

..I might be able to help..

mark9901: to the fascinating world of ancient numismatics!

I started into ancient coins by reading about the subject first. I went to the local public library. They only had books on modern coins, so I asked for some books on ancient coins on the inter library loan system.
In the the Dewey library cataloguing system, books on coins can be found at the Fine Arts 737.?XX? area of the library.

The first coin I purchased was a denarius of the Emperor Antoninus Pius. It had a modius and corn ears reverse. I cost me $4,50. That was nearly 40 years ago.

Have a look at the VCOINS website, and type in the search a name of a Roman Emperor of your interest. All the coins for sale from around the World for that Emperor, by registered sellers will come up in the search.

As a start, search a list of Roman emperors then search again on the Emperor of your choice to find out some history on that individual. Starting out studying ancient Greek coins can be a little more difficult and harder to understand to begin with.

Welcome to the hobby! I recommend my own site for beginners:

It answers many "frequently asked questions."
