Been looking at this one for a bit, and factoring Moe's tastes and modus operandi into grading. This is a $2000+ coin in MS63, and he doesn't like spending that kind of coin on individual pieces. He has an eye for "excellent at the grade" coins, especially Halves. ANACS conveniently has 87 of these in AU58, and I think this might be one of them.

Great coin!
It could just be the pictures but the surfaces look a little unnatural to me. I think PCGS might say AU details on this one. Obviously it would be a very strong coin for that grade.

Another beautiful Bust Half Moe!

Slightest bit of friction I have ever seen. Probably touched once or twice, then put away.

Well, well, well!

I'm a little surprised by the CCF high grade guesses received for this one. (Pleasantly surprised!!) Normally the CCF Collective is pretty spot on.

ANACS had this beauty graded at AU-50.

I do think the ANACS grader under-graded this by a little.

Thoughts?

For SsuperDdave to apply his extensive knowledge of Forensic Science and Behavioral Psychology to this lowly "Guess the Grade" thread seems excessive...

I think AU is fair, the degree is arguable..
This appears to be one of those coins that
could be submitted three times and get three
different grades, (hopefully all in the AU range though).
You have it in hand, so you know best. Trying to
judge from a picture, for most of us within a point or so
of reality is commendable, particularly in the higher grades.

JMHO, Thanks for posting it! -Ron

Again, going by the surface looking a little dull/unnatural in the pictures, I think ANACS could be docking 8 or so points instead of listing this as a problem coin.

I kind of like the idea of docking points for impaired luster on coins with surfaces that look a little off instead of just automatically slapping "details" on the grade.
