Fairly new purchase that I wanted to share. S-188

Included the Grellman card. Filled a tough hole in my 1799 slot.
I got a very decent price on it because of the corrosion. No way I could afford a problem free example so I jumped on this one. I'm happy

Does the BS-1 mean that Grellman graded the poor thing as Basal State?

I'm not sure of Grellman's language.
Possibly.

EAC 7/8 but pretty corroded so Basil state 1?
That's what I'm thinking 7/8 details.

SMB 7/08 is a provenance. SMB refers to the previous owner and it was purchased in July of 2008. The grade is Basal State 1. Many EAC collectors are known by their initials, unfortunately I don't know who SMB is. Grellman might know.

Is Basal State 1 still in use? Whitman Encyclopedia of Colonial Coins states the term was replaced by PO-01. Is this accurate?

EAC does things their own way. And if it's copper, and your name's Grellman, you can do it however you want.

Grellman..who's that?

S-188 is far scarcer than S-189 so I'm pretty happy.

BTW, I would not have bought it without the card.
