The motto on the first coin is found on Nuremberg jetons, but typically around the edge. The way the motto is laid out in a square seems to mimic the style of a "Rechenmeister," or "alphabet" jeton:

Despite the crowned French arms, the obverse seems to bear, in a common Nuremberg fashion, a "fictitious legend" of nonsense characters. Interestingly, I think we can say the first five letters, R(or A) B P V I, are followed by the same letters in reverse!
