Came across this Chinese Japanese coin in my grandfather's collection. The note with it says its apparently from 1143 (820 yrs old) - now 870 years. 1769-1859. Anyone have any other info to share? Anything would be appreciated! (Thanks to 1962penny, coinworldtv and Sap)

Hello, this is a Japanese 4 Mon coin, not Chinese at all.

Thanks! I researched similar coins and the assumed date seems early by a couple hundred... Still very interesting!

Sorry, but the information on the ticket is wrong. This coin is not from China, and not from 1143. The Chinese did not put "waves" on the back of their coins. This coin is from Japan, a 4 mon "11 waves" type, dating from the period 1769-1859. Here's a good reference page for the type.
