Coinmaster97 if it just another coin from the same die. A Cud is just a broken die on the rim of a coin. This one happens to be pretty large.

As to OP great find and awesome sell price.

i just saw this, and a little over a year ago I found a 1972-D Jefferson nickel and it has an identical Cud on it, like a 100% match front and back. I still have the coin and it is definitely a different coin as it doesn't have the scratch ring around the face...i am really curious about it and would love some thoughts :) (its my first time on this site)

If possible can you get some pictures of it. A new thread on it would be great also. Oh! and by the way

Looks like an earlier die state of CU-5c-1972D-02b, shown here:

You might want to contact them and see if they would like to add it to the database. Awesome coin by the way!

so, if I ever decide to sell it, does anyone think I might be able to fetch a price higher than $120 since mine doesn't have the scratch ring around the face?

and Jay, I think you're right, that's really cool!
