Hello, just wondering CCF's opinion on this 1900 Morgan and whether she is a gem or not The second pic really shows the surfaces and fields well, and the number of marks.

I am thinking 64, though it could be a high end 63. It has a lot of luster on both sides, so I think MS64 is a pretty good guess.

4. It's a nice coin though, shame about the light scuff on the cheek, if it was smaller/not there it could be Gem with ease.

Thanks for the opinions so far!! So given the very nice reverse, the clear fields, and full satiny luster, the cheek hits would still bring it to a 64?

Yep, imho. Morgans are all about the cheek, that is THE focal point.

Those don't look like "hits" in the pictures, they look like light bag friction or rubs in the luster. You have the coin in-hand though and if they are hits then 64 would be it.

Agreed. The corollary to that statement is, knowing as we do how much digital photography enhances what seem to be "hits," if those marks aren't as prominent in-hand you're looking at a fairly easy 65 based just on them. However, the most telling feature for me is the vertical scratch behind the eye, most visible in your first image. It's deep enough to reflect light in relief from the right angle - hence why it doesn't show as well in the second pic shot from differing angle - and I think that one's enough to limit this coin to a nice 64.

I'm at MS63 on this one. There's too much chatter on the cheek for a 64 for me.

I'm also at 63. A few too many marks to make 64 IMHO.

Interesting! And yes, they are extremely shallow marks, not hits as I said. They aren't as noticeable in hand as well. Thanks for all the guesses!! I'll post this coin when it comes back from PCGS!
