There unfortunately are a Lot of fakes out there for Grading companies as well as WTC dollars. We would need to see pictures or links to confirm.

The holders look to be genuine PCGS slabs. The coins are genuine as far as I know and there were several very large caches of coins found in the rubble.
Personally I wouldn't spend that much on one...unless it had some sentimental meaning for me. Most sell between $75-$190. Stick around for some more opinions though and feel free to always ask any questions before buying.

Yes, the ones that are certified by PCGS were recovered from the COMEX vaults in the sub-basements of the WTC complex. Some have been certified as authentic uncirculated and others were assigned a grade.

Gold, First, welcome to the forum! You can search for previous threads on this topic. It has been discussed many times and I think you should be able to get more input from those threads as well. The WTC coins have been "hyped" like a lot of other specialty coins in recent years. They are regular eagle coins, but the significance of them being in the WTC vaults makes some people think they are worth more money. As was mentioned, some people buy them for sentimental reasons (loved ones killed there, etc.), but I don't know that the long term value will be that high. But, what do I know? It's all speculation. But, if you are buying them for investment reasons, I would re-think the idea and put your money into proven coins that have a high demand across a wider range of collectors.

It's a bit confusing but from your description of the label, Yes they are genuine silver Eagles recovered from Tower 7 of the WTC (not Towers 1 or 2 the ones the planes hit). Not they are NOT from PCGS. They are from Collectors Universe, the parent company that owns PCGS. They just used their subsidiaries slab shells. These were the first round of WTC coins and if you see the back of the slab you will find they have the CU logo and no the PCGS logo. Later PCGS got into the business of slabbing and GRADING these coins. All of the CU coins are just Gem Uncirculated, the PCGS coins are actually graded.

I guess I'm confused on this one. Are the auctions reportable due to the PCGS in the title and description if CU is the parent company of PCGS? To me it seems like another way to mislead folks. What are the qualifications of the CU graders? Not that the top three are always right on with their grades.........

Cheers Guys, to be honest I`m a total beginner to collecting silver eagles. I had no idea that any had been recovered from the WTC till a day or so ago. I assume that there like gold sovereigns recovered from the RMS Douro or such like, they sell for a little more than a normal coin, because of the history behind them. I`ll more than likley get one just to have one in my collection, and I suppose as a reminder of 9/11 (not that anyone should really need one, you understand), and the beginning to the war on terror, that I got sucked into, but thats another topic for a different forum. Thanks for all you advice, anyway. G.

Badthad, I see your link example as a COA with it, none of the others I`ve seen have one of these? Is this a good or bad thing?

I`ve also noticed that some of these coins come with COA other don`t, others have numbers others don`t.
Why is this?
Would I be right in thinking that they have been bought up by different companys who have then packaged them up differantly?
Also which town was the Iron Mountain Vault underneath?

The COA is meaningless, the slab certifies it as from the WTC. In either case, it seems to be simple exploitation.
