think this is a medal not a coin and it is NOT a 50 cent piece

The piece is one of several "so-called half-dollars" (i.e., medals) that were promoted by a coin dealer in the mid-1940s as a commemorative coin substitute for collectors. The medal is definitely not silver. It is a fairly common piece.

Correct ... it is not a coin and therefore not a commemorative coin.

As correctly stated above ... it is a privately issued medal with no legal tender status.

Likely also not composed of silver.
