The best answer - and I'm not trying to be facetious here - is, "because I've seen a Morgan dollar before." This doesn't look like a Morgan dollar past the most casual of glances. All of the proportions are off. The most striking differences is in the denticles, which are way too long for a real coin. It should measure 38.1mm. Does it? Report this Post to the Staff

WheatBack Pillar of the Community United States 2850 Posts	Posted 11/28/2013 2:03 pm That's an Eisenhower dollar or an 'Ike' and yes, they are pretty common. Only would command a premium (in my opinion) if it was in high MS, otherwise it would only be worth face value. Report this Post to the Staff

I'm not very knowledgeable about Eisenhower dollars (the 2nd coin posted) but I'm relatively confident that it is real. As some of the others said, they are common and don't have a lot of value.
