Sorry for the picture quality, the only working camera I have right now is on my iPhone and I don't really have a setup quite yet. Anyways, I found it in a junk box at my LCS. It's probably not worth a lot, but I've never seen anything like it and I'd like to learn what this is. I started collecting just recently, so I'm no expert on world coins. Everything on this coin is in a different language, too, so I can't identify the date or anything.

Anyone know the history behind this?

I moved your post the Identification section.

We need clearer pictures to get the year and denomination, but the first image leads me to think Thailand

Looks like yet another one baht of King Rama IX! I believe they were all dated 1962 for a number of years.
Welcome!

Nope! It is a 25-satang (1/4th baht) coin, as evidenced by the denominational numbers and yellow brassy colour. The year is 1957, but it could be from any of the 20 years after that.

Correct, Thailand 25 satang. If you want to see what an undamaged version of your coin looks like, see the WorldCoinGallery page for this type.

Thai coins are dated using the Thai Buddhist calendar. The date on this coin, written in Thai numerals, is "2500", which converts to AD 1957. But, as others have said, Thailand made these coins, all dated "2500", between 1957 and 1987. There's no way to tell in which specific year within that range your coin was actually made. Total mintage over that 30-year period was 620 million, so it is a very common coin.
