I would carry 100 $1.00 bills around rather than 100 $1.00 coins.
Who in their right mind would ever carry around 100 one dollar notes?

If you have more than four (one if you like two dollar notes) at any time, you are doing it wrong.

The one dollar note has long outlived its usefulness, by at least thirty years.

Within five years of its withdrawal, no one will miss it.

Dude, you are not REALLY saying that if YOU buy something for $100 with cash you would bring 100 $1 bills (or coins) to the merchant (or maybe you would be carrying them around just in case you saw something you liked)....

They now have these notes that are equal to 20,50 or even 100 of those $1 bills and it would save you a major bulge in your wallet....

Really, this is just a joke right?

i routinely have been ending up with like 9 or 10 one dollar bills in my wallet. I pull them out thinking I have a lot of money then realize they are all ones.

Come to think of it I bet when you whip out your thick wallet people think you are loaded - which aint a bad impression to give even if you arent loaded !

Connoisseurs of a certain type of establishment

Actually in high school one of my friends used to have at least that in ones all the time. When hed get his resturant pay check hed cash it and get 1 20 and the rest in ones so that it always looked like he had a massive roll of 20s. Hed watched to many rap videos for his own good.

I cannot see the problem changing the low denomination notes to coins.
In 1984 and 1988 the one and two dollar notes were replaced with coins in Australia.
They are pretty small coins 25mm for the dollar coin and 20.62mm for the two dollar coin.
It is far easier to get your change in these "Goldie" coins than having to flatten out the always scrunched up paper 1 and 2 dollar notes and putting them in your wallet.

Sooooo...can you imagine having a hundred one dollar bills in your wallet? What's your point?

Yes. And in many places it is normal to have large quantities of singles to make change. Many people that shop in places where exact change is a necessity carry large quantities of singles. Of course if your not one, you wouldn't know. There are so many places that requier cash only and exact amounts too. Again, if you don't know them, makes little difference.
Also, very possibly if they would make the baby dollar ooins look much different than a quarter they would go over a little better. That has always been the biggest complaint I've heard is how they look to much like a quarter.

Been using the Loonie since 1987 and the Toonie since 1996 in the Great White North. Absolutely could not imagine going back to the small denomination bills.

Unfortunately, like the metric system, I don't see the US changing it's way for a long, long time if ever.

Probably why they change their color many years ago....

I do agree that they still can be mistaken for quarters though....

I actually think the debate should be moved from a $1 coin to a $2 coin. The fact is most places I go - I am giving up $2 to get a cup of coffee and get change. The buying power of a single is pretty much gone and there is no need to even have them any more.

That honestly may have a better chance. It doesn't have a recent history of failure and wouldnt be replacing/living side by side with something commonly used.

At least it could be (and is done) without near as much trouble as trying to cart around 4 rolls of the dollar coins. I feel sorry for coin machine venders if they ever force these metal disks down our throats. Can you imagine nowadays having to cart 2-3K a week in coin (small operation) to the bank instead of bills? The bills a child could carry easy enough. But 2-3K of dollar coins would mean some unnecessary straining unless you are susceptible to kryptonite.

Actually, I DO in fact carry $200 in $2 coins.

But not in my pocket.

They are in a small snap lid tablet container in the car, and they pay for 98 octane fuel for my old 6.9 litre Mercedes.
That way, I kid myself that I am paying cheaply for fuel for that old beast!
