Poll Question
OK, I thought this would be fun. Here are the rules:
Vote for your favorite cent design. The winner of each denomination will move on to the next poll, and the winner of that will be named Coin Community's Best-Looking U.S. Coin Design. Denominations with only one design, like the two-cent, will be entered by default. I am not including minor design changes or commemoratives.
I will post the Best-Looking U.S. Coin Design next Saturday.

I voted for flying eagle but the Wheat cent would be my second.

They are both beautiful coins. I would be way too biased to the wheat, you can probably tell.

Wow, a lot of good ones here. Maybe would have been more fair to split large and small cents? No matter. I went with my sentimental choice... Lincoln Wheat cent.

While I do like a lot of the earlier designs, I don't think they hold up to modern standards. I would have liked the Indian Head cent the best if they had used a good indian head. But I always thought it looked funny. From a composition perspective, I just don't think the flying eagle fills the coin properly. It just feels imbalanced when between the part of the coin above the eagle and below. The top of the coin is loaded with wings and text and the bottom just has the date. The reverse of the Flying Eagle cent is definitely a contender for best reverse. Overall, I voted for the shield cent. The shield is a good design. It fills the coin well and has good subject matter. The font of "United States of America" leaves a little to be desired, but that's it. I'd give it a slight edge over the Wheat cent. The obverse is a great, classic design that's stood the test of time. The Lincoln Memorial cent is just excessive. You don't need the president AND his memorial on the coin. One of the two is plenty.
