According to the announcements section of CoinWorld 7/2/07 The May issue of Penny-Wise included some kind of report about a thousand point grading service?

Here's part of what CoinWorld said:

************************************************************************
"...according to the authors, UGrade features a 1,000-point millennium grading scale' assigning numerical grades to a coin's obverse, reverse and edge..."
************************************************************************

Please say it ain't so. Please tell me it's a typo or some kind of satire.

I don't see anything in the May 2007 Penny-Wise about UGrade. I have never heard of them either. Maybe CW was referring to an ad or it was a joke.

Thanks Susan. I couldn't find anything on "Ugrade" either. I put it in google and good about a million hits for "Upgrade."

I'm pretty sure that I'm reading this right. I read it and re-read it about 15 times since last night and it still doesn't make any sense. Maybe CoinWorld got someone else's info mixed up with EAC?

Susan what about letters to the editor? Is there something like that in the May issue? This has got to be some kind of satire from a member.

I found it and have retyped and emailed it to you. I'd post it here but I think it's copyrighted material and I don't want to lose my membership. It's a spoof and is quite funny.

The gist is that UGrade will give your coin whatever grade you want if you have enough money. They would grade on a 1000-point scale and provide 3 numerical grades (obverse, reverse, edge). In discussing the size of the encasements for the coins, there is one that is large enough to "feature built-in ring bolts to facilitate movement by chain hoist or portable derrick." It was written by Dave Weygant and Spencer Peck.

Thanks Susan. The eye bolts to hoist slabbed Yap money was a nice touch. But I usually tube them in 55 gallon drums.

Just the small denominations of course. I think for the larger ones you'd have to use sewer pipe.
