Last years price guild has a bunch of numbers that are not very correct. Some are very low, as Grey sheet bid is higher then the prices listed in V V. Some other numbers are a bit over the top, the 1882 V-2d comes to mind in MS-64 the guild has it at 5,000 in MS-64.
Keep in mind the
VAM View is a guild that's all.
VAM View has the 1878 P VAM-34a listed at 600.00 in XF, I sold my coin XF-45 4 weeks ago for 6,900.00. The last reported transaction was 11 years ago on that
VAM. In 11 years only 4 have surfaced, so its a good idea to watch the market. When in doubt ask questions!
Logan and Dennis do a bunch of hard work on this guild, there work is "invaluable" Cherry Picks do not get listed as a normal price for any sale nor do distressed sales. A distressed sale is deemed when a given "
VAM" sale "private" had been put in a well known sale with exposure the ending sale price would of been far greater but the seller needed to move it for cash NOW.
I have bought a few harder
VAM's this way where being in the right place panned out. Other issues that can effect the selling price is when a large number of rarer
VAM's end up on the same auction. In cases like this collectors have to chose 1 or 2 coins as cash flow becomes an issue. Tonight's Heritage sale is a good sale to look at. An 1888 O Scar Face "H-10" in MS-64 this is the only Known 64 hammered at 12,000. MS-62's have sold this year for this same price.
But this sale has a large
VAM collection being sold off as the collector is very ill. This collector had a very fine collection and at the end of the 3 sales his coins are in I think the net will be around 2.9 mil. Everyone runs out of money even the big boys.
